Homeopathy (page 3)
-
If it's so good, why haven't I heard of it?
- Very likely you heave heard of homeopathy, but not from your physician. Articles frequently show up in the popular media about this or that condition responding to homeopathy. Those will be counterbalanced by other articles, usually with some authoritative sponsor, that either seek to disprove the claims or convince you that these "unregulated drugs" are dangerous. People who depend on homeopathy to maintain their health find a puzzling paradox in the reaction of "real medical experts" to homeopathy. On the one hand, medical scientists say homeopathic remedies are worthless because there is none of the original substance left in the remedy. At the same time, the experts assert that the remedies are dangerous because they are made from things like arsenic, opium poppies, and diseased tissues. It might be interesting to ask these experts to name a "real" anti-cancer drug that does not have the potential to destroy healthy cells along with the abnormal cells.
What will I see?
- You will see Dr. Van Cise do the same things during an exam for a homeopathic patient as he does for any other patient. There may even be an indication for X-ray pictures, laboratory analysis of blood, or an ECG. You might hear some differences. Since most of the alternative therapies need to evaluate the entire patient, not just the physical tissues, you may hear questions about diet, sleeping habits, and interactions with other pets or humans. The more details that can be pieced together to define a patient as an individual, the more likely it becomes that a single remedy can help correct all the imbalances.
If you have occasion to use different types of remedies, you will notice that they all look the same. The liquid forms are all colorless and the pill forms are all white. Sometimes the pills come in different shapes or sizes which have no relationship to their potencies. The reason they all look alike is because there is nothing in the remedy to impart any color to the fluid or pill containing it. Diluting liquids and pill binding ingredients must also be pure in order to avoid influencing the energy of the remedy. Be assured that the effects of each remedy are very much different.
Actually, similar looking medicine is common in prescription and over the counter drugs. The antibiotics lincocin, penicillin, and sulfamethazole/trimethoprim are all white tablets as are the steroids prednisone and medrol as well as many aspirin products. Clear injectable medications include the antibiotics lincocin and gentocin, most intravenous fluids, and analgesics such as flunixin meglumine.
You may even see less of Dr. V. As you become more skilled in observing your pet, it becomes easier to accurately reevaluate their response to therapy over the phone. Then, too, energetic therapies, such as homeopathy, tend to focus on correcting the underlying imbalances rather than just suppressing the signs of disease. Once your pet returns to a healthy, balanced state, he does not have a need to visit the doctor so often.
